[Engine] rattling injector ?
#1
Hi all,
After having refuelled at a supermarket with diesel a rattling started.  It sounds like an old petrol engine with a worn timing chain and a tin of ball bearings being rattled along with an old sewing machine at full pelt and power was down .   First though was I filled with petrol instead of diesel but checking the receipt , no it was diesel.
It did not not rattle at idle , its normally quite quiet for a 1.9d,  and it kept going  but heavy on fuel , no black smoke that I noticed.

It did this  for 15/20 miles then when got home and switched off and started it again when cooled down. No noise and power back to normal .

I think it may be  a sticking injector , normally use redex diesel cleaner but skipped last time as I had none left.
It makes me think it may not have been the injectors as skipping redex once or twice shouldn't be a big deal.

Any thoughts ? something else maybe EGR valve or what ? ,

PS  I see 4 injectors, brand new for £65.00 on fleabay , has anyone tried them ?

Try some millers. Sticking injectors usually stay that way, mabe just an odd thing happened, see how it goes.

Try using a large screwdriver or a piece of wood held onto the engine as a stethoscope to locate knocking noises..

If it were me I'd check there was no water in the fuel filter - is there a drain screw on the filter ?

Given that all now appears ok with both noise and power I'd leave things alone for the time being otherwise you could end up doing a lot of work and spending a fortune chasing all the X Y and Z suggestions that may crop up - no offence meant to anyone of course !

I'm waiting for it to appear again, will check for water but new filter a month ago but that's not to say the fuel I put in didn't have water in it . ( expensive water at 133.9p per litre )
