[Tires & Wheels] Space saver wheel
#1
I had a puncture yesterday: 20 min before rescue service answered phone; 2 hours for the patrol to show up only to be told they could do nothing, the alternatives being an emergency tyre fitter who would charge an arm and half a leg or another indeterminate wait for a tow truck to be relayed 20 miles home.. At this point I had had enough and called the wife who came out to pick me up with the punctured wheel and we returned this morning after having a new tyre fitted.
Why? Our Berlingo Multiplas is a wheelchair accessible conversion with no spare because the rear floor is lowered. To be fair this was not a problem when it was a Motability vehicle as tyre maintenance and (priority for a disabled driver) rescue is all part of the contract.
However I do not want to be caught out again; the normal spare wheel stowage is not available so I am thinking of a skinny space saver wheel secure vertically to the inside. Has anyone recommendations for a suitable wheel or alternative ideas? (I am not keen on the can of sealant and electric pump idea!)

I expect you can use a space saver wheel from a Peugeot 206.

Failing that you can fit roof bars and put a normal spare on the roof, It would have a fuel penalty though.

Ive got an old 2008 M59 berlingo that was converted from new into a WAV. Its a gowerings conversion they are one of the biggest converter in the country and I have a spare wheel mounted vertically behind the single rear seat on the nearside wall. It has a big bolt fixed to the side frame the wheel is stood there and then a spinner is wound on to lock it in place, even has a nice cover over it. The jack and brace is in the usual place behind the panel on the other side. If room is tight as said above find a spacesaver that will fit and find a way to fix it vertical inside.
Are we there yet????? Huh
Ex 1.6hdi van now 3 seater 1.4 multispace

Thanks hawaiianblue. I will follow up the 206 idea but I dare not put anything on the roof as I get enough hassle from Brittany Ferries, who are convinced I exceed their max height for normal cars rules, as it is!

Thanks Tomcat3. Mine is a GM Coachwork conversion. I have what I think is the original single folding seat behind the driver. I will investigate the nearside and try and find a fixing behind the trim.
