I always thought that all the cheap scanners are a fake version of the ELM327. The original elm327 are quite dear and most of the cheap ones are a few soft. version below the original.
I will certainly check on the video, thanks.

I don't know for sure of course, but I suspect the 'modified to work with FAP' ebay item hasn't been modified at all, but the seller has noticed that it works with FAP (their other items suggests that they do know about this subject). Other sellers offer what looks like the same unit, without claims of modification, for less. Only a hunch though, and if it does work with FAP it's a minor point.

I first clicked on the ebay link and only scanned through it. On a second look, the seller's address unlocked some memories about this seller. It was Glen before with "ez-office-supplies", now John, same address.
I bought an "ELM327" from him before and was sent something that did not even look the same on the photos on ebay. Did not work with FAP or others and basically no ECU connection. After complaint he sent another one that was working with FAP. This is what he said about the device he was selling, same ProScan thing:
"As to the 1.5 version. this runs an emulation of the ELM electronics IC, if you want an original ELM chip inside then that is going to cost over£70, ELM chip alone is £20. It's all down to the quality of the components and the compatibility with the OBD standards."
Even by his words, this is not ELM327 and runs some simulation inside to emulate the ELM327.

Only because the address is where I used to go surfing, that is why I remembered. I had to go back to my e-mails to check if it was indeed the same. In all honesty he sent me a device that worked at the end.

My memory isn't exactly clear about this as it was quite a while ago that I read about it, but from what I remember, John / Glen was right about the cost of the genuine ELM chips. Apparently, the code from the first diagnostic chips got published and some clever person managed to get it working on a much cheaper chip. Even more apparently, the only item on the cheap OBD readers capable of executing code is the BlueTooth chip.

Hahaha, that is funny, plastic wrapped bluetooth chip.

So, I have a VGate iCar plug in BT module, it is "ok" not great, but worked with Citroen in ways that other cheap ones did not. It worked with FAP (had to buy the full version) and worked with Torque Pro, both pretty good. I found the FAP app slow, unresponsive and fiddly to use.
I previously had a Carista BT module, which is fairly cheap (£16-£24) and works with all OBD software, and it was truly VERY good. NOT to be confused with the Carista software which is expensive and only any good if you have an Audi or BMW (sorry Carista, it's true) - so if you get that particular adaptor, use it with Torque Pro or FAP and you will get most - if not all - of what you need or want including live data. I would still have the Carista but left in in a car when I traded it in and never realised till a while had passed and it was too late to get it back.
I'm going to get another one myself.
The proper Ford diagnostic laptop cable was expensive for my ST (I bought that cable a few weeks ago - OBDLink EX) and it is superb on the laptop with Ford software, but for Mobile Phone type quick readings of live data, I need the BT version so Carista is my all-round choice for a BT dongle. It was also the only one that would work with the Audi DPF software available on Google Play.
If you have an iPhone then you will need the WiFi version of any adaptor - unfortunately there are not many about that are cheap + good. OBDLink CX from memory is one such good + expensive WiFi adaptor for iPhone, otherwise I can't offer much but I think VGate make one too (WiFi version) which should be cheap, and not too shabby.
OBDLink are the dogs whatsits. But, not cheap. You get what you pay for.
The big issue with cheap ones, and this applies to PSA as well as Ford in my current case, is they cannot speak CAN reliably (if at all) and especially cannot switch between HS & MS CAN even when they are supposed to do CAN.
A lot of control modules are split across MS CAN and HS CAN, where as all cheapo ELM clones are RS232 / FTDi cable heads - whether USB or BT, and RS232 cannot speak CAN bus at all. This severely limits their ability to be truly useful on modern cars. But, basic OBD codes that any adaptor or handheld can get, should work, and remember they ONLY relate to engine issues. Anything else on the car, will not be found with any OBD generic reader. Not possible due to the reasons mentioned above.
Carista adaptors along with the most excellent OBDLink ones, speak CAN bus. OBDLink ones speak all versions of HS & MS CAN bus. I would get a Carista one and go from there.
