It looks like it's broken off from somewhere, look around the area that the cable on it would allow it to stretch to for clues, when you find it let us know and we'll see what we can come up with.

Is that a 1.4 or 1.6 Gasoline engine?

It looks as the hose we see is the breather pipe(the part at the lower rifghthand part of the picture is connected to the air filter. ) and we can spot the high-pressure fuel rail in the background, so it's definitely a Gasoline engine.

Take a couple of pictures of the throttle housing and the inlet manifold. I'm betting it belongs on the trottle body somewhere.
(at least one sensor is supposed to be on the underside of the throttle body)
And next time, zoom out a bit more.

We want both overview and detail pictures.

i could be wrong, but to me it looks like its a 'blanking plug' that is affixed some where by a single bolt or screw. if so its purpose is to keep the multiplug clean for when it may be needed to connect to a diagnostic computer. it may also be a 'bus bar' that is bridging two of the multiplug pins together for, i dont know, maybe a different octane setting depending on country you are in? something like that.

best bet is to see if any wires poking out, or remove broken bit from plug and look to see if its got any pins in it. ive a feeling its just a plastic blank.

It's at the top of the engine, close to the throttle housing. There's no diagnostics connector there.
Also, it looks as if the part has a ragged edge.

It could be from the Throttle position sensor, maybe?

looking at the picture, it seems to me as though its broken off from where the nut is. (just under the 90 degree bend in the black pipe)

the nuts slighty out of focus but thats what im putting my money on.

Nowt wrong with your eyes is there  Big Grin ....  well spotted.

I'd go along with that, looking closely it looks like it has broken off from the nut you mention.

I'd have the research what the plug was actually for, but it just looks like a redundant plug that's clipped to a plastic holder to keep it out of the way and to stop it from flapping around. Just cable tie it up to something.

From memory the gti-6 engine has a similar spare plug for some kind of heater for the inlet in cold climates or something equally daft we don’t need
