First Van Advice :)
#1
Hi all.

This is my first post, I don’t own a Berlingo yet but I’m in the market for a facelift one (08+) as my first work van. I’ve got a few questions that I hope you guys will be able to help me with.

-I’ve got about £3000 to spend so it seems like for a low mileage mechanically sound one near me I will have to go for one of the ‘S’ trims. Have any of you got this model and do you suffer without the spec you don’t have? I’ll be putting in a new headunit anyway. I’m not sure if I’m going to be unhappy down the line when I get a low spec one.

-Would you go for a pre-facelift one in exchange for the higher spec?

Thanks, hope you lot can give me some insight into the decision!

Well 2008 onwards isn't a 'facelift' it's a different vehicle to the pre 2008 vans.

you have the M49 models 1996ish until 2002ish,
then the M59 from 2002 until 2008, this is basically a facelift of the M49 model (though there were some run out versions of this until 2010)
Then the B9 which is the 2008-2018 model.

Yes. The B9 is what I’m referring to.

Suggest to not worry over much about the official spec, a lot of the Berlingo's/Partner's were specced with extras. Make a list of what you really want, eg Diesel, Manual, A/C etc then check the cars that come up against your list.

Mine is a 2008 M59 or also known as a berlingo 1st. When i bought it i did not want the new B9 because they were untested because they had only just released. By the way the B9 is limited to 60mph on the motorway, i believe as its classed as a panel van, the M59 First is classed as a car derived van so can do 70mph on the motorway.

mine was bought as a base van and i chose the add ons - i believe most of the vans were like that so each one you look at will have a different spec. Mine has aircon, remote locking, passenger air bag, heated mirrors, and NO ABS - yes i had to pay extra to have one built without ABS!

I have a b9 partner van (no side doors or rear windows) 1.6 75bhp for sale, 106k miles, when I bought it it had zero service history but it had been looked after judging by the air filter and a date on the fuel filter, I dropped the oil and filter anyway, and since then have done it 5 times in my ownership, it’s just had air, fuel, brake strip and clean (will include new ferodo pads with the sale for fitting in 6 months or so), has a nearly new steering wheel on it, tidy van, maybe two or three dings in it... and a small area of paint missing on the colour coded bit on the front bumper... Ive just used it for fishing so not a hard life and mainly motorway work, had a new genuine clutch a year and a half ago by me, if you wanted the cambelt and waterpump doing I will do it for the cost of a genuine kit (150 off the top of my head with my discount - I worked at a pug specialist for ten yrs so I know the ins and outs of pugs) it will also have four nearly new uniroyal rainexpert tyres fitted which I’d guess are all 5-6mm so plenty of life left in them

Never had leaky black sludge in the injector area that’s common too

I’d take 2800 with the cambelt done if it interests as your a member on here?

Being a 75bhp it doesn’t have a dual mass flywheel or a particulate filter, so it also doesn’t need the serine fluid like my new 90bhp 13 plate
