Idle speed.
#1
Anyone got any ideas.
2001 1.9D. DW8 engine I think.
Idle speed has always been around 1100 rpm when cold, drops to just below 1000 rpm when warm.
Any ideas how to lower it.
Did a search but all seem to be about petrol or later diesels.
Any suggestions appreciated.
NB. Never bothered me before in 5 years of ownership, but now it's running well though I might see if I can sort it.

Think i remember about 650 but i may have made that up!

1100 is fast idle speed, may have a faulty wax stat or a split pipe from the solenoid.

Thanks for the reply. Need a bit more into please. By wax stat what is the correct name for it. Tried googling wax stat without success, and a bit more info please on split pipe from solenoid. Cheers.

Its difficult to explain but the 1.9 has a fast idle device but it depends which one you have if you look for fast idle you may find some info. Some are operated by a cable off a wax stat others are off an air electric solenoid it just depends on yours - i suspect you have a solenoid type - if you get a split in the vacuum pipes or a pipe has come off it will stay in fast idle.

Stary by looking around the engine bay for split and adrift vacuum pipes.

It is supposed to be 850 rpm. The wax stat simply advances the accelerator when it's cold. When the fail, as they often do, idle increases. Pretty simple fix but it will fail again and at twenty quid a pop most don't bother.
