Yes, wheel arch inner out to gain access and the plug should be quite well protected from the elements under a boot type arrangement. You need to carry out a continuity check from there to the disconnect on the side that is being snagged as being faulty to see if you have broken wires.

Happened to be doing some work in a garage yesterday so got it plugged into their snap on diag, came up near side front wheel speed sensor open circuit, then short circuit, repeated on the screen, so efforts will be concentrated on that corner when the weather warms up a bit! Still odd about the rougue reading from the rear sensor

One other thing to check before anything else is where the sensor seats.
I had a similar problem and found that the metal underneath where the sensor bolts down was rusted and the metal had 'grown' pushing it up slightly and so the sensor was not sitting correctly.
I got a small chisel and gently tapped the sensor seating area until all the 'grown' rust had chipped off.
When I re-fitted the sensor my issue disappeared

Fyi, this is the same error code message I had in Lexia with the broken cable on my PUG...

Hi folks.
My trusty 2006 Multispace seems to have developed this fault in the last few weeks.
I'm based in Stevenage, Hertfordshire so I'm looking for an experienced specialist in my area who is likely to go straight to the fault, rather than waste money going to a dealer whose staff might not have the experience to locate the fault quickly. Can anyone recommend someone in my area?

You could try these guys, I don't know anything about them other than they have been around for a while.
