Headlights
#1
Have done a search but unsuccessful. All the Berlingos I have seen thus far have the antiquated H4 headlights. Are there any models that have say an H1/H7 combination or Xenon lights?

Why does it matter? H4s are fitted, they work and are reliable.

If it did not matter I would not have asked the question. I suggest you try driving a vehicle in welsh rain at midnight in late december that has xenon or twin H1/H7 and compare with the pathetic H4's. I did a search on this site on headlights and there is a large number of posts commenting on the poor Berlingo headlights and of members seeking advice on upgrades.

What model Berlingo do you have? I've often thought about changing the front fog lights for DRL's but maybe they could be altered to give a better driving beam.

I'd be interested in the answer too after driving a car with xenon and afl I find the Berlingo headlights very weak. Mines 2012.

Try some Osram nightbreaker bulbs in your headlights they make a vast difference. Not sure what fitment you have in the B9 versions but there will be a fitment for your car.
Are we there yet????? Huh

. . . I suggest you try driving a vehicle in welsh rain at midnight in late december that has xenon or twin H1/H7 and compare with the pathetic H4's. . .

Brighter headlights may be marketed and regarded by many as being safer in as much as they provide better visibility, initially this may appear to be a good thing, but on the type of roads you mention if you light the road better there will be a tendency to drive at increased speed.

Please resist any sort of super bright LED conversion, if you meet an oncoming vehicle with LED headlights on a dark country road you really can't see where you are going, even in the city where the streets are lit you are often blinded by the LED lights manufactures have taken to fitting to newer vehicles.

The problem of super bright lights has been recognised and a lot of drivers are realising they are causing problems.

Note that as far as I know there's not a single LED conversion kit for H4 that's approved for road use. None of the 'bulbs' have the point lightsource required to fit the profile of the headlight lens.

Also, don't be tempted to fit stronger bulbs, even if you can find them for sale. They're meant for racing only. They will give beter light in the start, but after a while the much higher heat output will destroy the reflector in the back of the light. This isn't an issue for the racing circuit because there headlights are considered a 'consumable'

Stick with 'Nightbreakers' and possibly add an extra set of lights with different bulbs.

I have a set of H7 lights I plan to fit my M49 soon...
I also have a wiring kit I picked up at a local HW store that hooks in between the bulbs and sockets. It consists of hefty relays and thick wire. (They use the regular healdight connectors to drive the relays, which are coupled between the battery and the headlights. Shorter and thicker wire than the regular loop from the battery, to the relay under the dash, thin wire back into the engine compartment and the bulbs)
