starter motor issues
#1
Hi Newbie here so hello to everyone,

ive been pulling my hair out for a few weeks now i wonder if anyone can help.

so i have an 06 plate berlingo with the 1.9D Engine.
ive owned the van n for around 2 years now and its served me well.
the van now has various issues electrical issues. i cant help but think ive blown something when jump starting it a few weeks ago due to a dodgy battery not holding charge. i have now replaced the battery.
  • firstly the glow plugs are intermittently failing to get power. (van wouldn't fire however when direct feed of power given to glow plugs it had no problem starting.)
  • Starter Motor went last week so i replaced this with a brand new one. this worked for a week but now just spins and doesn't engage, however on the bench connected to a battery it engages.
i think theres an issue with the power getting to the starter any help or advice appreciated Smile

The battery earth lead is always a favourite to try first. You can connect a jump lead from the negative terminal to the engine block & see if that helps the starter.

Connect the jump lead from the Negative of the Battery to any metal on the Engine / Gearbox, this will act as a temporary earth lead.

OK I tried this and had no joy. Id guessed it's earthed right as the starter motor spins when turning the ignition it just doesn't kick out and engage. Is there some relays somewhere I'm not finding. Haynes doesn't have a wiring diagram for the starter system

Sounds more mechanical fault of the starter motor. Sounds like bendix is sticking stopping it from spinning out and engaging with the flywheel.
