[Engine] ECU replacement problem
#1
Does anyone have any ECU programming knowledge?

Do different engine models have different ECU's or is it a generic unit programmed to suit?

I have a 2012 Berlingo 1.6 HDi which stopped running, turns out problem was with ECU. A second hand ECU was purchased and programmed for immobiliser etc. Car now starts but comes up with start/stop faults even though it's not a start/stop model of Berlingo.

Can this ECU be reprogrammed to remove/bypass the start/stop programming or does it require a specific ECU for my model?

The VIN number code for engine is 9HP.

I have no experience with B9's or Stop / Start but wonder if that's a BSI option that can be turned off.
I'd give HDi Tuning a call or email and see what they have to say. At worst they can probably supply you with an ECU, maybe even exchange the one you have.

Hi there welcome to the forum, don't know where you are in the country but I would start by talking to companies like ECU testing or BBa Reman who have a vast knowledge of working on electronics or here is two independent citroen/ French car specialists that may be able to help. In the midlands is
https://www.marklightfoot.co.uk/french-car-specialist or in Hertfordshire https://www.chevronics.co.uk/
Are we there yet????? Huh

Hi, it’s highly likely that the ecu you have chosen is incorrect. There are literally dozens of permutations  when it comes to the ecu.
Every number must match in order to make the car work correctly.
I have been looking for a replacement unit for a Peugeot 207, & it’s taken 2 weeks for a perfect match to turn up on eBay.
There may be people who can alter some of the parameters, but we certainly can’t , not on the engine ecu, and we are quite advanced at this stuff.
Most engine ecu’s are a once only write & once it’s done you are stuck with it.

Thanks for your replies. It looks like it will need a different ecu. I'll speak to the garage doing the work who are dealing with another supplier for programming the ecu.

Hopefully get sorted soon.

Hi,

To update, garage sent ECU to specialist who sorted ECU and got start/stop issue resolved. Car now starts and runs fine but there is no power steering.

Any ideas? Garage has sent BSI to get checked but it is unable to be amended/reprogrammed

I'm unsure what to do next, do I keep paying for diagnosis/checking/swapping parts or give up on the car? Seems a pity a perfectly good car is rendered useless due to computer/electrical issues.
