1.9d Clutch replace.
#1
Cedrics poorly! Sad

Got a Romahome Duo based on a 2000 1.9d Berlingo.
I'm pretty sure that the thrust bearing is giving up. He's screeching in the bell housing at rest but dipping the clutch helps and he's quiet out on the road.

I've never done a Berlingo clutch before (last transverse I did was a 1300 Allegro YEARS ago!,  so any advise would be most welcome.   Nightmare job?...........not too bad?..........specialised tools?
I've sourced a Valeo clutch kit at carparts4you but they don't seem to do the fork but I can get one of those from Eurocarparts. Any other parts it would be advisable to do whilst he's stripped down?
Thankfully, I'll be working with a fairly clued up mate and we have a set of ramps which will help with elbow room.
Pretty sure mine has the BE3 box because I've been underneath and on the end of the casing is a stamp.........."XU30 BE3".

Thanks pips Big Grin

By the age of it I think it will be a BE3 box

Make sure the shaft that the clutch cable operates by is nice and free. It has a tendency to stick where it sits in the bottom of the clutch housing. If sticking it tends to hold the release bearing against the clutch pressure cover and wears away its fingers.

It sounds to me that bearing for the input shaft, where the shaft slides into the end of the crank, may be dry.Smear it with grease before putting box back on.

Phew!  Job done! Big Grin
Wasn't toooooo bad, just a lot of grubbing about on my back and a bit of quiet swearing. Tongue
Thankfully, not much in the way of extra/hidden probs. Worst thing was that the clutch release lever which is pinned to the vertical release shaft had seized onto the shaft. Luckily, I'd just bought beloved one of those kitchen blowtorch things for browning merangues etc and it was just enough heat to expand the hole in the pressed lever and allow me to knock the shaft through.
The mid bearing on the offside shaft was OK but I must admit that faffing about with the 90 degree turn offset head bolts was a bit of a pain on the build up.

Costs?

Valeo 3 piece kit.........Carparts4you.......£56
New driveshaft seals, new plastic shaft bushes in the bellhousing & new release guide (Citroen).........£70 (chuffin' ouch!)
New 36mm hub nut socket ........Halfords........£10.

Total £136.

As a matter of interest, I asked the local Halfords Autocentre for a price.............£640.40.   Big Grin

Would I do it again, yes, that's a fair old wedge left in my pocket and other than replacing a 36mm socket which I'm dammed sure I've already got hidden somewhere Angry , I had all the necessary, and to be fair, basic tools to do the job.

Thanks for the tips and advice guys.
