I like the look of Amdros rear window storage unit but the price is considerable and I need to use that window when reversing; before seeing that I had thought about organising a shelf to give a flat area in the rear windows to put the odd thing on when cooking or making a drink; not for use in transit. Has anyone made such a thing already.

hi there, I just stumbled over your post, have you found a solution since? I am at the same stage as you were a year ago and I hope you'll see this :-)

I eventually made a shelf using a lightweight plastic packing sheet screwed to the side of the car. When I am able to travel I am going to see how much, and for what, evolves using it.
I recall needing to put bits somewhere other than on the bed/floor or elsewhere it could be covered up, or knocked over.

Eventually I made a shelf using a 15cm wide piece of lightweight plastic packing sheet screwed to the side of the car either side of the existing window shelf. It is just handy to have somewhere to put odd things; other than on the bed, floor or elsewhere where it could be covered up, or knocked over. I have a makeshift plastic tube and rubber squeeze bulb acting as a tap which I store in one side shelf when it is not in use. Other than the tube set up I only keep soft things in it to avoid rattling.
Off topic. I use the tap/bulb for washing over a little metal bowl that I have, or in a washing up bowl. When the tube is in a water bottle I can squeeze the bulb to raise water. I either hang it from near the roof and press with one hand; or place it on the floor and press the bulb with one foot, - the tubing is long enough to reach the floor and the bulb is located somewhere to suit along the pipe.
I can use this water system outside by taking the whole lot out. It works well saves tipping water often from a bottle to rinse, add water etc. I recall I saw this idea on a campervan set up on Youtube.
