[Engine] engine temperature cooling fan
#1
The other day I had a run over the Wrynose and Hardknott passes in the lake district, both passes are steep and narrow roads, real 1st and second gear jobs, my temperature guage went up from 80 past 90 to the next increment on the scale but no where near the red sector, this happened on both passes. I was a bit concerned with the rise in temperature as I never heard the cooling fan come on. I later checked that the fan was not seized. my question is at what temperature does the cooling fan cut in?.

As the cooling fan should come on about 118% on a petrol 1.4 , I think the diesel engines should be about the same temp.
Its a pressurised system so that raises the boiling temperature.

So would that be about 2 increments up from 90 on the gauge?

We need to know your engine type i suspect a 1.6hdi diesel?

Ive been over Hardknott pass and the temperatures you were getting were quite low, that is why i suspect a diesel. The fans are two speed at least thy may be more and at low speed you cannot hear them.

On my 1.6hdi i have are con and at anything under speed 4 on the blower the fan only comes in at very slow speed and ive had to look though the grill to make sure its working due to no sound.
