[Engine] sump guard
#1
Just a query, is the sump guard necessary?, also how much gap is there between the guard and the sump?  many thanks.

I had a steel one on for a while but I think it wasn't necessary , really depends what type of road/track you're using..  I still go up and down rough roads and don't miss it.

If you do fit one fill the gap between the sump and guard with foam or something , if you hit a large rock and the space between the guard and sump has stones in it then any large loose stones can be forced into the sump.

A hole in a steel sump can be plugged with a lump of wood to get you home but the alloy ones just shatter

i think oldfella is meaning the plastic under engine cover. if so on my last berlingo it had one and it became a pain in the butt. it kept coming loose and hanging down. on the berlingo i have now it was removed before i got the car and dosnt seem to cause a problem.....much easer for oil changes ect.

I have a Peugeot Partner Escapade (2007), same as the M59 apart from the metal sump guard and a few other bits and pieces. I am not entirely sure if one can retrofit it to the berlingo. The metal sump guard sits ~an inch or two below the sump, but it wraps around. Very inconvenient for oil changes.

Here is the picture from publicbox, although no part number.
