Bulkhead ladder (with middle seatbelt attached) in the way of bed area
#1
I am converting a short wheel base 3 seater van into a camper.

One issue we have identified is that we have a bulkhead ladder, with middle belt attachment, very much in the way, where I would like one corner of the small double bed to be.  Therewould be only approx 150cm length from rear door to the ladder, for approx 1/3 of the bedwidth, meaning the bed is at 2/3 ideal width for approx the end 30cm, with a hard metal bar where I'd like my feet. So I'd really like the ladder gone!

I had imagined removing the double passenger seats and putting in a single one, which may even have forwards movement or fold down as well as the current seats do.  This would even give easier avcess between cab and rear due to a gap between driver and passenger seats.  However it appears difficult to obtain a good condition single seat and base at reasonable cost!

So...I am contemplating removing the middle seat, leaving the base, which includes the main passenger seat belt attachment.  I presume that, without a middle seat, even if there was still a base, I would not legally/MoTwise need a middle seat belt.  Does that sound right?

Suggestions error this sticky issue are very welcome!

I don't know what version of van you have but there have been multispace seats for sale on this forum, certainly worth a search

Thanks!

2013 L1.

Do you think the multispace seats are compatible, the seat box fixing points in particular? If they are, this does increase options Smile

Because we are still using the vehicle for two, I haven't yet taken the double extenso passenger seat out in order to pull up the (very stiff, reinforced) carpet to check if there are points other than the 40x37 and 47x37 cm ones that the current seat uses.

Perhaps someone could kindly tell me what the dimensions of their multispace passenger seat fixing points are? If so, big thanks!
