RPM at 60mph for BlueHDI engines
#1
Hi
Looking at getting a new(er) Berlingo Multispace / Partner Tepee with a BlueHDI engine.

I've been trying to compare the gear ratios on the Berlingo BlueHDI 100bhp vs 120bhp.
According to automobile-catalog.com, the rpm at 60 mph works out at -
100bhp ( 5 speed manual box ) = 2532rpm in 5th gear
120bhp ( 6 speed manual box ) = 1724rpm in 6th gear or 2062rpm in 5th gear
There seems to be a big gap in these 2 figures, more than the difference in BHP would suggest.

Can anyone confirm ( or otherwise ) these figures ?

My '65 Blue HDi 100h is a tad under 2,000 rpm @ 60mph.HTH.

The speed at any RPM will be completely dependent on the gear and diff ratios. A 70bhp engine would achieve the same speeds connected to the relative gearbox but take longer to get there.
So where does this bit go then ?

Yes, I understand this.
However, the 100bhp and 120bhp versions have different manual gearboxes ( 5 & 6 speed respectively )

I'm trying to find out whether the 120 ( 6-speed ) has roughly the same revs at 60mph as the 100 ( 5-speed ).

In other words, does the 6-speed box have the same final drive ratio in 6th as the 5-speed has in 5th ( so the box has closer ratios ) or does the 6-speed box give roughly the same speeds/rpm in gears 1-5, with 6th being an "overdrive" gear.

Ron has kindly given me the info for the 100bhp.
Now I just need the info for the 120bhp to compare.

for what it is worth i have a 68 plate 100 blue hdi and my wife has a 120 e-hdi EGS in her 15 plate C4 picasso.

final drive on my berlingo with 5 speed manual and final drive on her C4GP in sixth gear is almost the same RPM, its almost as if the later Blue HDi has had its 5th gear replaced with that of the 6th gear from the earlier generations
