Unable to Open Back

I am unable to open the back door.  Although I get a warning that the back is open, I am not able to actually open it.  I'm at a loss.  The Berlingo will also not lock because it thinks the back is open.  I worry it will suddenly open while driving.  Of course it is also important to use the back.

Background: Yesterday my two year old son got out of the Berlingo, walked around the back and must have touched the back gate because I could hear it make the lock unlock sound.  Ever since then I've been unable to open it and that is when the problem began.

You can open the tailgate from the inside with a small screwdriver, IIRC there's a small catch on the bottom left that needs to be moved to one side. The instructions are in the owner's handbook.
Once it's opened, you should be able to re-close it and hopefully reset.
