I suppose the obvious answer is your engine never gets so hot that the fan needs to run... does the temperature needle stay constant?

My '04 2.0 Hdi normally runs at just under 90° on the dial - however when I got caught in prolonged slow traffic on the M4 last Saturday ( in hot / sunny conditions ) it went a bit higher
( but still nowhere near the red ).
I have owned it for about 6 years & have never heard the fan cut in . It would be nice to know that it does work .....!
