Newbie with Berlingo questions
#1
Hi and thanks for letting me join your forum.

I’ve had these Citroen’s for the past 28 years AX/BX/ZX/Xantia/DS3 and currently own a DS3 cabrio(wife’s) and my vehicle is a C3 Picasso Exclusive. The Xantia was probably my favourite as it was a delightful drive and so comfortable.

Last month my father in law passed away and we have been left his 2008 (58 plate) 1.6HDI Berlingo Multispace.

He didn’t drive the vehicle for over 2 years and it’s been sat on his driveway since.
He bought it new from the local Citroen dealer and its current mileage shows just over 11k.

So I’m after some advice please. I’m guessing the first thing I need to do is replace the battery but what else should I do or look for in order to get it running so I can tax and MOT it ?

Thanks in advance,

Cliff

Hi & welcome.
I would change the oil & filter & also the fuel filter to be safe.
Changing the trans oil is also a good idea, using synthetic oil.
How much fuel is in the tank? Ideally it needs to be drained/run low & filled, adding a good fuel system additive.(I use Millers myself)
Check the exh system for rusting.
Put it in for the test & see what happens.
Poss problems:-siezed callipers & cylinders.Flushing the brake system & checking for leaks is a good idea.
Good luck with it.My last Berlingo was  a '57 1.6 HDi & it was a great car.

If it's not been run for a couple of years, it may be worth turning the engine over for a bit without starting so that the oil can circulate. I think this can be done by disconnecting the Crankshaft Position Sensor, but there may be easier / better ways.
