Starter Motor Removal
#1
Hi from Australia, I have just bought a 2010 Citroen Berlingo 1.6hdi aka Peugeot Partner that was used as a courier van. Apparently the driver wore heavy boots as the clutch is kaput after 150,000klm. I am trying to install a new now but removing the starter motor has me stumped, I have been following instructions from a Haynes online Workshop Manual that is just a little confusing and vague. Does anyone know where I might find instructions on how get at the two remaining bolts that really can't be seen.

Hi - off the top of my head - there's two that you can best get to from underneath and the threads point towards the left hand wing (if you're sat i side looking forward). There's another facing the other way that you get to with ratchet extensions etc etc after removing the battery and air filter gubbins.
(I think you can get the inner two off by leaning over the front of the engine if you are double jointed and have eyes on stalks)

Thanks for the suggestion, I have seen that one and this bloke who has some great videos https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLFbTVn...hkPBs7zdWg but none of them say how to actually get in that last little bit and get at the bolts, oh well I will just keep removing things until I can I guess. Cheers

Sounds like the starter removal I did on my sons Vauxhall Astra a while back ......

a good sense of ESP required ! ( extra sensory perception and not some modern car gimmick .. Lol )

Actually the best way on such things apart from You Tube etc is to take a break and have a go after a cuppa / next day even when you are feeling fresher and then all seems to be much easier.

Hi, thanks for the knowledge, I guess I just haven't removed enough things yet. If only the scuttle wasn't there! Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion, yes its another day now and I will soon have another look at it with fresh eyes, even though daylight saving started here today and I have been robbed of an hours sleep. Cheers

I guess the thread-starter managed to pull it off. You too? I'm trying to remove the gearbox and I thought I had all the bolts but when it finally cracked open it feels like its still fastened to a third bolt at the starter. After closer inspection I saw that there was actually one more bolt through the starter to be removed, but I dont understand how to get there...

Later same evening...

I tried the coffe-trick. It worked. Not looking forward to put the bolt back when I mount the gearbox back again, but I think I know the easiest (but still hard) way of doing it. I put the socket on from above and around just by feeling my way in there. Then I had an extension about 10cm wich I put in the socket from underneath, using a mirror. Then I could get the tool in there to loosen the bolt. I'm no mechanic, but I doubt it should be this hard!
