Steering Issues
#1
Having issues with the steering on my berlingo 13 XTR.

It’s been intermittent where the steering can go heavy then light also some times get a dry grinding noise.  Has been to garage mechanic can feel this dryness on both track rods and thinks it might need a new steering rack but also said that might not solve the problem.

Tracking and suspension has been checked and power steering has been topped up and steering wheel side to side to bleed.

Four new tyres on yesterday and drove home seems to be ok.  Have searched the forums and seen various posts about the uc or knuckle joint on steering column needing cleaned and degreased.  Asked mechanic but he doubts that would cause the issues I am having.

Anyone else got any ideas?

Don't know about the B9 but my M59 had the same problems and it was down to the UJ / Knuckle Joint getting stiff. Putting spray grease on directly did not fix it, I had to loosen it up with WD40 first, then apply grease. Lots of lock to lock turning while doing it too.

Thanks just to check is this the one on the inside of the van as not seeing one underneath?

On the M59 it's underneath, exposed to the weather etc. I've not looked on the B9, so can't be sure if / where there is one. Hopefully someone else with a B9 will be able to help say if / where there's one underneath.
I was surprised that such a small joint could make so much difference on my car so I'd be inclined to check the linkages from the steering wheel to the steering box.
