Bad throw out bearing at idle?
#1
Seems to be going from one thing to the next...
So, my clutch is on it's way out. To the point I reversed it on the drive way and all I can smell is burnt plastic.

The throw out bearing squeals when the clutch pedal is pushed down.
However there is also a noticeable chirp coming from the gearbox at idle.
One mech thinks it would be the Input Shaft Bearing.
My friend mech whos been working on them for 30 years said he's never come across a bad gearbox even with 300k miles on it. Short on running low on oil. Seems to think there bullet proof.

Would the clutch start makong noises at idle? Hoping its not ISB.

140k miles.

Thanks in advance.

If the trust bearing is worn or dry yes it can and as it squeals when you press the clutch i would say:

1) remove the box and check the imput shaft bearings, my guess is they are ok,

2) replace the clutch

Hopefully, I was in a situation where I could have changed it myself... But I am not anymore... So I need to pay someone to do it :Sad Sad times.

Started it the other day. Seems as I am driving and at idle I can hear it squeal, more noticeable when warm. As I push the clutch pedal down more and more to change gear the louder the squeal gets.
The smell of burning clutch seems apparent too.

I will report back in a few days time when my mech opens up the gear box.

The smell will be the plastic round the thrust bearing starting to melt and the clutch plate burning up.
