Boot jump build - Finished!

Eyup, I was asked to make a boot jump style kit for a customer's Berlingo, here's what it looks like now it's done. 

   
   

I used 12mm birch ply, stainless steel hinges, a little black walnut to edge the table and a Fiamma table leg and connections.

Thoughts? Comments? Questions?

Looks good & sturdy. For me, it would probably benefit from some drawers in the side sections. How long is the bed / how is it supported at the front?

Looks like you screw straight in the edge of the ply - does that hold OK? I was always told to never screw into endgrain of regular wood, but dunno if that works with ply..?

The customer wanted them open for chucking things in and out quickly and who am I to argue hehe :-)

The bed is 174cm long, again, he's quite short so it was built to his spec. There is another panel of wood hinged onto the panel that's angled up in the photo, it's resting against the front seat headrests in that position, it can be lowered to become a vertical support for the back rest panel which then becomes flat.

I also used biscuits along that edge. The biscuits, glue and screws along with there being a back panel holding all the rear edges together make it solid. If that makes sense?

Put some ventilation slots in the mattress support or the foam will be damp after lying on it all night. I had to make a slatted base for one in our trailer tent for just this reason when our grandson was camping with us and no it was not an accident

Ah, nice! I've been thinking of using pocket screws myself; had success with them elsewhere but don't know how their strength compares to "proper" joints - considering that it'll be getting bashed around in the back of the van all day.
You've also convinced me to spring for some nice birch ply rather than being cheap using the regular WBP stuff
