Dispatch owner here infiltrating the berlingo clan. Hoping someone can advise me here as i cant find any forums for the Dispatch.
Just bought the van, knowing that it was smokey 57 plate 1.6. Its black smoking under acceleration, guessing MAF or maybe a leaky pipe but wondering if anyone can say which is more likely or if theres somewhere else i should be looking. checked the fault codes and getting P0100 and P1351
thanks

Difficult to diagnose without looking at the car, but black smoke means unburnt fuel, or not enough air.
This is confirmed by your 1st fault code, which is a mass airflow problem.
Could be that the turbo has failed, or not operating, depends on what the performance is like, are you aware of it being down on power ?
Simple thing to check is that the vacuum pipe is fitted to,the turbo capsule at the front of the engine, and make sure it’s a good fit, the pipe gets oil soaked and becomes loose.
Get someone to start the van, whilst you observe the turbo actuator arm &see if it moves once the engine is fired up.

I think the turbo is ok, pulls like a train, turbo lag is noticeable but when spun up it takes off well. Tick over is smooth and constant at 850 ISH rpm. Revving with no load is fairly smoke free, there is a bit though. When accelerating under load is when I get the embarrassing black smoke screen but it clears as soon as the turbo has spooled up, at least that's my assumption.

The lag could be caused by the egr valve being stuck slightly open, this causes lack of boost at lower revs.

Ah ok, would that also throw up that fault code? If it is sticking would a clean sort?

Well the fault code could be there because of the incorrect airflow, they don’t always tell you exactly what is wrong.
Cleaning it may help, but difficult to be 100%.
You can usually check if it’s sealing by pooring a little fluid in it & seeing if it’s sealed.
You may just be able to see it’s stuck a little.

You haven't mentioned the air filter in any of your posts, have you replaced it and done a basic service ?
So where does this bit go then ?

That's interesting. I have a 1.6HDi with very little boost at lower revs, there was also an EGR related DTC which went away after a good run on a dual carriageway. In the mean time, the MAF has broken so I'm waiting for a new one.

where do you pour the fluid and what fluid? its not easy to get to on the expert, theres an air scoop thats in the way.

Ok, little update as i've been under the bonnet as the weather has been better.
first task was to clean the MAF sensor with some IPA. I chucked the multi meter on it and the signal wire is reading between 7.5 and 9ish volts when idle and revving. Is this correct? I was measuring the 2 outside wires as the middle ones seem to be 12v and ground when i tested.
Also when i took the air feed pipe to the turbo off the inlet to the turbo was quite wet with oil. problem or ok?
edit: just connected torque pro up, forgot i had it, it's reading 7-9 g/s at idle, im guessing thats way off. MAF dead? Are cheap eBay MAF sensors worth a punt? seen a few for around the £25 mark
