I think the MOT person needs to go to Specsavers with the way they are reading the numbers!

So, another year and my M59 1.6DHi (2007) passed again the emissions MOT test with flying colours. Absorption coefficient this year (nearly identical to last) 0.48 1/m. It was a fast pass as well with a limit applied of 1.5 1/m.

I only did two runs of the "Italian tune up" with ~5,000 rpms for ~15-20 secs in 2nd gear the day before.
That is 3 years in a row with nearly identical absorption coefficients, ~0.46-0.48 1/m. So, if you read this and thinking should I try this, maybe you should.

Photo of this year MOT certificate with the 0.48.

My 2005 2.0 M59 failed an MOT on emissions. Never happened before. It was submitted early morning and was not fully warmed up. temp gauge showed normal BUT the requirement is that the OIL temperature should be at least 60C. I drove it home then took it to another station, after warming it properly, and it passed easily - nowhere near the limit.

I think you need a drive of at least 10 miles from cold to bring the oil temp to 60C
