Hi, I bought my multispace end of August. 2011 1.6. It's used as a disability vehicle for my wife, whom is in a wheelchair and bought privately. Today, I encountered my first problem. I went in to a garage shop. I didn't lock it. Habit I've got to get out off. When I went back to the car, the headlights were on and the wipers were going. When I tried to start it, I had no response. I tried to lock/unlock the car with the button, nothing happened. I went back in the shop, (quieter in there), to phone a mate. After about 10 mins. I went back to the car, it was still headlights on and wipers on. I phoned Autohome. As I got through to them, I thought I'd lock the car manually. Success. It locked and headlights went out and wipers stopped. I then went off to work. Any suggestions as to why this happened? Was it because I left the car unlocked? When I tried to start the car, with no response, the message on the dash did say 'Security Alert'.

Could be failing battery, our last MK2 work van did that each Xmas after laying around for a few weeks when we were closed. Seems to be a weird behaviour of the bsi when the battery is poorly. New battery cured it. Jump starting was not much use as it died overnight again, had to replace it and was good as gold after that.

If the car is not running and ignition off and you have the radio on after about twenty minutes the car will shut down and display eco mode. This is a standard feature and is to stop draining the battery. If you start the car the display will clear.
Are we there yet?????

do a bsi reset first then you need to be looking in the scuttle for leafs and debris blocking the drain holes. Water gets into the bsi when these are blocked, i do mine every so often and this time i got a bucket of leafs out of there. You will need to remove the wiper arms and then the plastic panel - about 1/2 hour to do it when you know when you are doing.
If water gets into the bsi you are in big big trouble (for trouble see very expensive), some of the problems you are getting are a sign of this problem, you must do the above as a minimum before you go changing components or any further diagnostics.
