Hello again.
So, the reason I destroyed my comms unit in removing the steering wheel was to have a go at getting to the bottom of a wiper issue.
Occasional stopping of the wipers, sometimes across the screen, at any speed on the stalk, once this happens it also stops the washers too, until it all bursts back into life again. It's unlikely to be the switch as it happens with the reconditioned unit that has replaced the original.
Am I looking at an auto electrician to try and diagnose this fault? Assume it's the motor or the BSI unit, although this is speculation from what I've read. Are either of these items costly...he asked them knowingly.
Cheers.
