EGR Valve Core Plug Popped Out
#1
Driving round the M25 on Tuesday I had an engine overheat. Citroen Extended Warranty/Assistance arranged for RAC to come out, filled the degas bottle and coolant gushed out of the back of the engine somewhere.  As they couldn't see where it was leaking from the car and I were relayed back to my local dealer. After inspection it turned out that a core plug in the EGR valve had popped out, dealer ordered parts on Thursday and fitted them Friday and I picked up vehicle this morning. Citroen Extended Warranty covered the cost of repair.

Anyone else ever had this? or heard of it?
Matt

Bought my Blingo new in 2014 from main Citroen dealer who has done all the servicing but the dealer has never mentioned or offered extended warranty.  So I've learned something today. They did try to sell me a servicing plan but I always prefer to pay each time. Fingers crossed now.

Haha, dealer's service plan! I had a 3 year free service plan when I bought the car. After this I did my own servicing and upon removing the air filter I noticed that it was never replaced for the 3 years they did the so called "full service".

The extended warranty I'm referring to is the "Citroen Select Extended Warranty" that most/all Citroen dealers provide with used car sales. I believe that it's actually managed by a company called Car Plan. This is the second Berlingo I've had it on. It's included in the price of the new second hand car and after the first year I've paid to extend it further. It covers Citroen Roadside Assistance, which they contract to the RAC, parts and labour warranty and a guarantee that the car will pass it's MOT or they'll fix it. They understandably exclude wear parts and consumables and in the recent case of the EGR valve replacement, they excluded the diagnosis cost. I haven't done a detailed analysis but I think I've had good value out of it, including replacement injector seals and front springs on the first car and the EGR valve on current one, together with the reassurance of having the roadside assistance. I do have my car main dealer serviced, not sure if that's a requirement off the plan.

Core plugs obviously pop out if the water freezes inside the engine, was it a coincidence that it popped out just as the cold weather started?

It's had recommended anti freeze so should not have been a freeze problem. It popped out after 50 miles on motorway so it was well warm at that point
