Fuel Filter

I have a Berlingo 1.6 2007

i removed the fuel filter today from the van.

i noticed what is called a drain tube attached to it. 

i noticed the other end wasnt connected to anythin it was just hanging....

should it be connected to anythin or just hanging?

Hi and welcome to the forum, if you plan on joining us you should introduce yourself in the relevant section.

Most forums will not answer questions from 1 off posters but i feel this is wrong as very often said people are only looking for help and may not be good at forums.

Anyway the answer is no its a drain tube, on the filter is a knob to unscrew to let any water out that the filter has separated from the fuel. It then drains onto the top of the gearbox or undertray. If you dont let fuel go stale in your tank it unlikely there will be any water in the tank.

Ok so there should be access for fuel to escape the tube if over flow. and just dangle down

 " Dangle down "   -   He just means leave it flapping around in the air , and not connected to anything . Its just for draining the fuel in the filter housing so you would possibly put a small container under the tube or just let the waste drain onto the ground when doing so . Its nothing to worry about and is normal . If you don't like it " flapping around " it can be safely removed completely and refitted when you wish to clean the fuel filter .

Thanks been told its a over flow type like a boiler in a kitchen. nothin worrie about. thanks.
