remove rear plastic decorative overhang thingy
#1
Hi all,

The rear (above number plate) decorative plastic overhang thing, the one with the berlingo letters, is rattling/loose from the one side. I can hear it banging on the tailgate while driving.
I could not quite understand how to get it off to inspect inside and potentially fix it. There are two bolts from the inside of the tailgate, but it is still somehow attached rather securely. The two lights that shine on the rear number plate are underneath it and I think that in order for one to replace the bulbs the overhang thing needs to be detached, so there must be a way.

Does anyone know if there is some specific way to remove it? I just do not want to force it and break even more plasticy things. This is for the M59, 2007 model with the one tailgate.

Cheers,
saskak

Ok, so managed to do it.

In case anyone is interested. In order for the plastic overhang (above the number plate) thing to be removed one needs to remove the plastic trim at the back of the tailgate (inside of the car). It is held by plastic fasteners only (at least on my car), so basically pulling out. Careful as some of these can break.

Inside, behind and above the number plate these will be 3 bolts, more accurately 2 bolts and 1 nut to be undone. 2 at each side and one just behind the rear wiper assembly.

Once these are unscrewed, the thing is held by two more plastic fasteners and the overhang can be just pulled out.

This is it, mine was broken from one side, I will have to see if the plastic can be glued back together with superglue.

Cheers,

hi the lights that light the number clip out from the fitting when its fitted so no need to take the whole unit of to chang the bulbs.

Thanks, but I was not replacing the number plate light bulbs. The plastic overhang thing had broken from one side and was banging on the tailgate while I was driving.
