[Engine] STARTING PROBLEM
#1
Hi Guys, been a long time since posting on here due to the on-going reliability of my Berlingo 2.0 ltr Hdi but now I have an annoying problem. On cold start up the engine turns over quite slowly until after only a couple of seconds it virtually dies giving you the impression that the battery is dead, then after turning off the ignition and trying again it starts straight away. For the rest of the day start up is normal with perfect performance,no overheating etc. This has been like this for about 6 weeks but just recently its been gatting worse resulting in today being unable to start until turning on and off 5 times before it would turn quick enough to fire. As before, once fired up performance was normal with no overheating,no water loss etc. I,m now concerned that sooner or later it wont start at all so any advice would be most welcome.

There are quite a few posts on the forum about the M59 2.0 hdi engine and its starter motor. They all point to a tired starter motor and some rebuild it but others go for a replacement and there is an uprated starter that others have fitted with good results. Have a search on the forum.
Are we there yet????? Huh

Thanks Tomcat3 for your reply and as a result of spending an hour or so searching through the relative posts re poor starting I have put the car in for a new starter motor on thursday. Lets hope this solves the problem and I can return to reliable motoring once again !

UPDATE !!  New starter motor has fixed the problem and I now have a working horn which has been U/S for 3 months. probably the disturbance of relative cabling has re-earthed the horn back into life, gotta be better than removal of the front bumper !!Thanks again guys.
