RD4 Radio Pinouts
#1
I'm fitting a Bluetooth adapter to the Aux Port on my RD4. The adapter needs +12v and I was thinking about using pin 11 on 'Part A' as it's apparently switched +12v (see link). Question is, has anyone used this pin? It's not clear if this pin will take any kind of load, or even if it's active on the RD4 as this connector is common to quite a few cars.

I would power it from the cigarette supply as it goes off with the ignition and that way you can drop a 2 core cable down into the console from the radio hole to get the feed up to the BT box, then plug it into the radio aux port....bingo. No worrying about it being on when the car is off, and by the time you start the car and put your seatbelt on, the phone will have paired once it's set up.

Don't you have the built in Bluetooth in the stereo? (Stupid question perhaps or you wouldn't be trying to add it...) Or is it broken?

Yep, I've used the cigarette supply but was thinking that the radio supply would be better as it would only be active when the radio is active and would also work without the ignition on. The RD4 has 2 versions, the cheaper version (mine!) does not have BT.

Ok, then the 12v on pin 12 is always present I presume, as you can push the radio power button with the keys out and it comes on...so what about tapping into that?

The pin 11 supply may have been ok too, although it only works with the radio on, I guess you want to use it while parked as well as running and no ignition on, makes sense now buddy. I expect the BT adaptor pulls a very small current. The pin 11 supply is probably short circuit protected or current limited in case an amp behaves badly so worth a try. If you rig up a 5W sidelight bulb to a holder and wires, you could test that, if it holds 5W then it should run the BT as by law all radio devices are limited to 2W maximum by Home Office rules for interference and human interaction (not fry brain cells etc lol)

You're right, the BT adapter only seems to pull about 50 milliamps when on standby but am not sure if it pulls more when active. Pin 12 should be permanent live according to the pinout guide but as I don't want the BT adapter live all the time, pin 11 looks a better bet. I'll solder a lead to pin 11 and see if it does become live, am just a bit worried in case the pin is only designed as a 0v signal rather than carrying a load. Only 1 way to find out!

Good call, I think it will work fine. Pity it doesn't have the old orange electric antenna wire, that would definitely work. Could be that's what became pin 11...!

Aye I hear that, not been able to do much myself. I've bought carpet for the rear, new leather shift boot and proper Citroen rubber mats, all I got done was the mats.
