Oil Leak from "engine side plate"
#1
Hi advise please,

I've got a 59 plate Citroen Berlingo, and its got a small oil leak coming from the "engine area".

I took it today to get it checked and the garage told me they need special tools to get the leak. They believe its coming from the "engine side plate". They wouldn't offer me quote or any advise to fix it.

Please has anyone had any experience with a leak on the "side plate of the engine" that needs special tools to access?

I've fixed a lot on my van but this one is new!

I'm guessing your vehicle is a diesel. . . if you put your vehicle details in your signature like at the bottom of my post it saves any guess work  [Image: cool.png]

I think the garage may be referring to the timing belt end of the engine, that may explain the special tools.... a timing pin kit. (a couple of bolts will do the job)  If that's the case the oil leak is possibly the camshaft or crankshaft oil seal, or it could also be coming from the oil pump gasket where it mates with the engine block.

If the oil has reached the timing belt most garages will want to replace it even if it is newish.

(27-01-2020, 07:03 PM)Sounds like the oil pump seal tucked up nicely behind the crank pulley on the HDi engine. My local Citroen agent diagnosed the oil loss from the seal and quoted me £955.00 to fix it, as the cam belt will need to be replaced and special tools are needed for the seal replacement. As the oil loss in minimal and I\m not losing oil between changes, I'm waiting for the routine timing belt change. Only thing to regularly check that any oil doesn't contaminate the timing belt, which mine hasn't after 18k! As far as I'm aware the crankshaft oil seal can be changed just as normal, yes the timing belt will have to be removed but other than that nothing different.

I think your Citroen agent may be quoting for oil pump replacement which requires the sump to be removed and is a lot more work.

Thanks, will check with the agent as their written quote did not mention replacing the pump.
