If I take out the original stereo and put my aftermarket Pioneer in will it be ok with the engine management? Like can aftermarket stereos be put into these vehicles? Ta

A lot of the after market radios wont work with the central display if you have one. You will need to swap power wires for the new stereo or you can get patch leads to do that and the remote steering wheel controls.

Many thanks the advice Tomcat3, yeah I see where your coming from regarding the central display, it does exist and it is actually an excellent feature of the van. Also like the control stalk behind the steering wheel with the rotating radio channel pre set knob and volume buttons on it, to be honest the standard radio sounds totally brill through the excellent quality speakers. It would be a shame not to have the central display and the behind steering wheel control stalk if the Pioneer is fitted so I'll carry on with the original stereo. It's just that it has a tape player and I have CD's not tapes. But I'll have to get some tapes from the charity shops

Get a separate 12v CD player and an FM transmitter, then you can receive its audio output as if it was a radio station. Just a question of where to mount the CD player. Maybe a better idea would be an MP3 player with FM transmitter, and convert your CDs to MP3 files on your computer.

I'm not recommending it but one of thousands of examples:

I'd personally prefer real CDs - or even an old 8-track would be nice! And a CB rig!

Mine had a tape radio when I got it but I replaced it with the cd radio version that was fitted to later vehicles. They are cheap as chips but if you buy one get the seller to code it to your vin number and then it will work straight away. I think I paid about 30 quid for mine 4 years ago. Its a straight swap no wires to change and everything will plug in and work.

Yep, as above you can get a standard RD3 radio with CD player. You can also get an Aux in adapter that plugs into the CD changer port at the back of the radio so you can use an MP3 player. I have one for sale on eBay, if you're interested, please PM for more info.

Having done this recently:

The factory radios are keyed to the vehicle's VIN, but it doesn't matter for aftermarket ones - they should just work.

If you use an interface adapter you can get an aftermarket head unit to work with the steering wheel stalk, but not the central display. You should be able to get one with a stereo patch lead for your specific brand of radio, or a generic one that you wire in yourself.

You'll also need an adapter for the aerial (ISO to DIN).

Interface + aerial adapter kit: https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/citroen-...g-kit.html
(you can get the bits cheaper on ebay though e.g. I used this and it worked out of the box: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CTSCT002-Stal...0818878375)

It was pretty painless when I put in a new head unit, only annoying bit was figuring out the above!

(29-01-2020, 12:30 AM)Ay up Rasputin.............. Yeah went down exactly that route many thanks for the advice. So much thanksyous to all the excellent advice from all you guys it was a real toughie to decide, but realised after using the van original radio cassette for a few weeks it is actually an excellent provider of quality music already, along with excellent original speakers too. So decided to get a Belkin FM transmitter and now attached that to the phone so playing constant YouTube and recordings through the original radio. It\s all great stuff and many thanks for the advice, these vans just get better and better, after harrowing experiences with Fords Fiestas derived vans, Escort van and even worse a 60 plate Transit that was probably the worst vehicle I've ever run mechanically wise, nice to drive but an engine that had every issue known to man had to scrap it only seven years old, defo found the right vehicles with Belingos / Partners and what a great drive behind that aircraft like windscreen Wrote:  Get a separate 12v CD player and an FM transmitter, then you can receive its audio output as if it was a radio station. All good stuff. I agree Bees are great vehicles - for the first time ever I had to fold the rear seats in my little 1.4 and use it like a van to cart a few full loads of rubbish to the dump. I'd swear it was so much happier with a bit of work to do for a change, rather than just taking me to work and back! I'm tempted to keep a few bags of sand in it for the better ride.
