Our dealer has advertised 30Mm interval but it's ridiculous. The oil is pitch black at 10Mm and I don't feel comfortable running it any more than 15Mm.

Do you mean 30 mm or 30 month or 30km ?

Your oil, if a diesel will be black in less than a 100 miles.

I would go for 10,000 miles MAX with long life oil or a year.

30 Mm = 30 Megameters, so 30,000 km. mm is millimeter.

This oil is really black. I have been driving diesel vans for ages. My previous one never turned as black even at 190K miles in.

The oil in modern diesels does turn black very quickly due to the carbon - it really means nothing, you need oil sampling and testing to find out the condition of the oil.

Never heard of mega meters before?

But i do understand Km and 30.000km is 18.000 miles and by modern standards that is not an excessive service interval. Although quite normal i would not be happy with this interval for oil on my own vehicle. I would half the oil change interval but keep the 18k miles as the normal service interval, effectively doing an oil and filter change at half 18.000 miles = 9.000 miles.

Heh, well. Re: Megameters: It's okay to say 18K miles but you (I) can not say 30K kilometers because it would be doubling the same multiplier.

I'm a car guy and know of the carbon issue in diesels. But I would not do the extended service interval. I sold my previous diesel (serviced every 15Mm) at 300Mm and it never consumed a dop of oil (so to speak) by the day I sold it.
