So a strange thing happened....

Hi all, 

Newbie here that has just bought two Multispaces (2013 75hp manual and a 2014 90hp auto). 

Whilst driving the manual the other day under slight load in 4th it sounded like something popped then all of a sudden it lost power. It also sounded like a London Taxi too, with a distinct diesel rattle. 

I figured a turbo hose or similar had failed. 

It was almost impossible to drive but if you put your foot down the turbo appeared to work and I was able to drive it for a mile towards home. No smoke out the back or any warning lights on the dash.

Then, our of the blue it cured itself and hasn't missed a beat since. 

Any ideas what on earth could have happened or what it could have been??? I'm obviously worried it might happen again.

Probably worth checking that the injector clamps are tight. 7mm allen key required, quite a few posts on here about them.

It might also be worth taking a quick squint at the bit that connects from the crank case ventilation to the turbo intake plastic tube, between the air filter and the turbo. Mine popped off on my previous m59 van (1.6 HDi), and I heard it suddenly sound a bit odd, and it dribbled condensed oil vapour all down the rhs of the engine and alloy bits etc. I ended up having to tie-wrap it on, it's not a well designed part of the engine hose layout. It will be under positive pressure all the time and the oil makes the connection slippery inside, but it is only pushed on and sits at a weird angle ready to jump off the plastic intake tube. That then probably messes with the MAF measured air causing low power - and you hear induction noise plus the beat of the cylinders from the vent hose itself.

Might be way out there but also worth a check in addition to cancunia's point about the injector seals. I also had the orange turbo intake seal slide out after that and it whined like a jet engine and ran really crap. The intake path plastic-work is not flexible enough at the right places.
