Gear linkage failure.
#1
So, i drove home after walking the dog. I drove in to the yard and went to put it in reverse at which point the gear lever was super sloppy and nothing happened with it remaining in first.
'Bugger' i thought.
So up with the bonnet and i started my random scan of the engine bay in the vain hope of seeing some thing out of place. Stunned i was when i actually saw a small link bar that had come adrift from its perch.
So, still needing to move the car i put the link back on its ball joint and wired it on to get me out of a fix.

On the interweb and a new generic one ordered for next to nothing. On its arrival i take off the Top Gear style bodge repair and fit the new one. Easiest job ever, the link is adjust able so i just set it exactly as the old one was set, pulled the old one off and pushed the new on on over the two ball joints. Brilliant.
It's a 2001 1.9d with 322,500 k on the clock.

That's the sort of fix I like easy to diagnose nice and cheap and back on the road. That's a good mileage on the old girl should be good for a few more years.

Tie wraps one round the post and another one through it and over the top of the link, can last ages if you can't get new linkage straight away.
So where does this bit go then ?
