STOP Warning Light

Hello all,
I am looking for some advice.
i own a Berlingo van 2007 1.6HDI with 101,000miles on the clock.
Over this last week My dashboard STOP warning light has been coming on. This mostly happens when i drive up a steep hill or at a specific location on my journey of which is a bend approaching a roudabout.
When it happens I pull over and turn off the engine and wait for a few minutes and then restart the engine. Once moving again the light goes off and everything seams to be running fine.
Yesterday my local garage told me that my van was going to die ???
Before i make a reluctant decision to scrap my van can anybody advise me of a solution.

Make sure you have sufficient fluids in all containers it may be a simple level alarm.

As Geoff says check brake fluid level, you may need to top up just above the max mark.

What DOT do i require ?

Good advice. I'd check the engine oil level too while you're in there.
