Locking/wedging van back doors open

Hi

When I'm accessing the back of my van when it's windy it always really annoys me that the doors will often blow shut on me (almost been knocked out a couple of times). Just wondered if anyone had a solution for this or any ideas how to prevent it?

You get hand operated spring clamps with plastic jaws from b&q etc, for clamping timber together while gluing, look like hand strength exercise things, if you buy a set, put one on each door on the check strap right at the door, and it would stop it blowing closed on you? Could be kept in the back and put on whenever needed...that's my suggestion for a possible solution.

Hi - we had a hi-top Renault Master with massive rear doors that really suffered from this (Ok you could open them right back against the body but even then the wind could swing them shut on you like a total bustard).

Solution was an eye plate on each door just above head height and then a solid bar with a clip on each end that you could attach to the eye plate (we used an adjustable tow pole). Doors could still wiggle about a bit but they would not try and kill you on a breezy day. You can also telescope the bar down and lock one door open if you site a second eye plate inside the back at the correct point

Not much good if you wanted to load a tall item though but I'm guessing not such a problem with the Berlingo

Only £3 and they work a treat, pretty much exactly the right size for the gap between the door and the edge of the rear load space when the door is open 90°. Heavy duty clamps so seem fairly robust. Yet to test it in high winds so will let you know how that goes. Am hoping bracing the check strap during high winds won't put too much undue pressure on the door hinge or risk buckling the door so any thoughts on that appreciated

Hehe that's the chappies I meant, looking good. I think they are the answer!

I don't think there's a risk to the hinges or from buckling. If you use them to block the doors as in the first pic, should be impossible to blow the door shut on those bad boys. Other possible use is clamp the check strap at the hole in the body to retard the doors closing so they can move with the wind but not slam. You'd see them coming then.

But I think using them to block the door would be fine too.
