Alternator ..

Can anyone tell me which side of the small 12v plug on the alternator on a 2.0 hdi the purple wire should be as you look down into the engine bay .  IE left or right In The plug.

Only asking as the plug had to be re wired and I am not sure it's I. The correct side 

Also what would happen if it was out in the wrong side
