[WTB] Rear Seat Removal 2006 Multispace
#1
Hello everyone,

Thank you, for allowing me to join the Berlingo Forum. I am very new to this kind of thing so, if I am not posting/asking for help, in the correct place, please redirect me.

I have purchased a 2006 Berlingo Multispace, to use as a campercar. I need to be able to remove/replace the rear seats from time to time. I bought the car unseen and was told the seats were easy to remove. They're not.

My brothers have tried to help me, but none of us have the correct tool/allen key/ratchet, whatever it is we need to remove the seats, we don't have it.

Does anyone know what kind of tool I need to buy to be able to remove the seats, and where I might be able to purchase it?

I know very little about cars - but you've probably guessed that already so I apologise if I'm not explaining myself well.

I would be truly grateful if someone could help me with this.

Thank you very much.

Just had a look at mine, you will need a T40 Torx bit if your fixings look like the ones in the photo.

Loads of places sell them but if you're in no rush take a look on ebay for something  LIKE THIS  which will future proof you for a few jobs.

Hi there,
Thank you for your reply, that helps me too, with my rear seats.
but do you know how to remove the black bolts next to the whitish torx-screws?
I have the same as in your picture
thank you very much.

Hi,
I've just taken a better look and the black bolts look as though they are sheer head security bolts.

To be honest when I took the photo I was concentrating on getting a clear picture of the Torx head bolts and didn't really take much notice of the black bolt heads sitting there.  Blush

The black bolt heads will have to be removed in order to remove the seats either by drilling / grinding the heads off them or you could MiG weld a nut to them and then screw them out.

I'm a bit confused here - in my 2003 model the seats can just be lifted out, no tools required, just fold them at the right angle.

Are not all M59s the same then, in this regard?

To be honest I'm not really sure, I've never had cause to need to remove the seats.

The original poster (Virginia Plain) asked what tool they needed for the bolts, I looked at mine and posted the picture, I didn't even notice the black bolts until eidallon mentioned them.

I'll have a better look tomorrow and see if they are removable as you describe.

Just had a better look and the seats do not come out unless they are unbolted as discussed.

They must have changed them and made them a permanent fixture for some reason.

Well, I owe an apology.

I've just looked at mine and they are NOT easy to lift out. In fact they ave exactly the same setup (2 Torx + 1 black security bolt) as the others.

The security bolts must be only for anti-tampering, not to help stop the seats from flying loose in an impact - that's why the Torx bolts are there too, I presume.

So therefore I would do as jj9 suggests and just try drill them out as a first option. If it succeeds, then their loss should not affect seat security if it is reinstalled with just the Torx bolts - at least it seems that way to me - don't quote me on it!

The black bolts will be high tensile security bolts. In a 70mph crash, a 15 stone passenger on impact will weigh 23 tons...52 pounds per square inch on the body. It's probably why they fit security bolts to the seat mounts.
