[Brakes] Front brake details needed please?
#1
We need new front pads on our 2006 Multispace, and I'm wondering about doing the discs too while I'm at it. I removed the NSF wheel yesterday and using a caliper it looks like the discs, which are vented, are the 266mm dia. ones, though it's a bit difficult to be super-accurate due the rust round the perimeter. The discs were replaced quite a few years ago, but the car doesn't do a massive amount of miles, and the surface doesn't look too bad. Currently 21mm thick on the swept area.
ECP quotes several makes - Mintex, Eicher, Pagid etc., but then there are references to Lucas fitments and stuff. Would anyone care to comment please? Thanks. VIN is VF7GJ9HXC93390760 BTW.

If you put your VIN into catcar.info you can get the correct Citroen part numbers and use that to cross reference with other brands. I wrote a post a couple of years ago after spending some time trying to work out which discs I needed, a search may find it..
In the end I bought some Pagid discs from ECP, they did not last that long, a year after fitting them I got an MoT advisory about scored discs.

Thanks for this. It may have been your earlier post that led me to catcar. Unfortunately the info it threw up didn't make things any clearer to me. Maybe I'm being a numpty. :o)
I took a screen grab of what catcar said, but there seems to be no way of attaching it to this post, sorry. Guess I'll have to keep digging around!

Good measuring, your discs are the 266mm version.

Check the inner face of both discs as they seems to deteriorate more than the outer face. If both discs are in good condition just knock the rust off the outer edge and replace the pads.

Using your VIN on catcar gives 4 options of brakes, one of them is for vehicles with ESP (Electronic Stability Program) the discs for ESP equipped cars are 283mm so that's not yours.

The other 3 options all use the same Brake Disc & Pads... (Bosch)

Brake Disc . . . Part #  4249 G1

Brake Pads . . . Part # 4254 75

Edit-

Just to add,
if replacing the discs you will have to remove the caliper bracket, the bolts for this need a Torx bit, I think it's a T55 size. You will also need a longish bar on them as they are tight and have thread locking compound on them, make sure to clean out the head of the bolt so the bit fits all the way in.
Heating the bolt can help free off the locking compound.

If you are not sure don't take a chance. I don't think they are expensive and if you have a decent torx socket set they shouldn't be to hard to come of. You will need couple of decent Male torx sockets and bit of a whack obviously on the disc but they are easy to come off. The Carrier bolts are a T55 and i would recommend using an impact torx socket set in case they are tight, and a decent torx T30 socket for the retaining screws for the disc's. Over all not to hard just need the right gear to do so.

The caliper bracket (caliper carrier) bolts are a T55 ...  I've just been out and checked on my car.

I think you may find the disc retaining screw is a T30.

OK, well thanks fellas!  Smile   I think I'm going to plump for the Bosch discs and pads that JJ9 mentions in his post yesterday. I've got some Draper Torx bits including the T55 - just hope I've got the beef to shift the bolts.  Big Grin I might whip a wheel off again tomorrow and just get a feel for the job. Did I read somewhere that the caliper bolts are single-use or am I thinking of another car I wonder? I've changed plenty of discs and pads in the past, but now I'm 70+ I'm a bit more aware of my limits!

I've changed three sets of discs on an M59 and always reused the same caliper bolts without issue ( death .)

Also refused the siren call for applying Loctite to the bolts.

Hope this is of use to you ......

I've got used to ignoring the naysayers .. Lol !!
