Tap on it with the short end of an Allen key while holding the key from the top of the long end? If it's alloy the tone will be dull, like "tak tak tak" and if it's steel, will be sharper like "ting ting" (see what I did there)

Onomatopoeia - gotta love it.

Anyway a steel sump will probably be black (or orangey brown if rusty) and alloy ones are usually dull grey. (Don't think PSA bother to paint the alloy ones)

Looks like dull grey so I’m guessing it’s alloy.
Put a new washer on the other day haven’t spotted any leaks so far , fingers crossed ? it’s fixed.

At least it gives you time to find a replacement sump and get it set up.

Good news indeed.

Many years ago the mechanic who used to service our vehicles always put a charge for 'sump washer' on the invoice.  I started of thinking "what the hell is he washing the sump out for" until the penny dropped!!
