Thanks
I guess that’s what’s happened. Was thinking of doing a helicoil on the sump thread, but that might throw more problems up. Will keep an eye on it see if any leaks occur.

Helicoil sounds a good idea to me, its the copper washer that seals the oil in, thinking the thread is just to keep pressure on it.. would be nervous of a loose sump plug, you could lose a lot oil at speed and not know until the oil light appears....

Always replace the copper washers every time the sump plug is taken out.

If I do the helicoil I think I would have to drop the sump in case any shavings get in to the oil. Going to check this morning see if it’s been dripping overnight
Thanks

It might be easier to get a used sump from eBay?

Had a look about an hour ago, looks like it let loose a couple of drips on the cardboard I put under their. I had put a rubber washer under the copper seal when I refitted it yesterday before fitting, the washer looks like it hadn’t been changed in a while. I’ve ordered a new sump plug an copper washer. Going to drain and refit with new plug omitting the rubber washer, if it still leaks after that. The new or second hand Sump it is. Replacing the front springs today so plenty to keep me busy in the lockdown ?

Now have a leaking Gearbox ?
Was renewing the broken spring NSF had pulled the strut towards me after loosening the bolts , the drive shaft came slightly out of the gearbox, think I lost about a pint of fluid. New spring is installed looks like the shaft went back ok, just need to get some gearbox oil to top up.

if a steel sump a magnet will catch the shavings , you can drag them to the drain hole and pull them straight out.
