M59 ECU swap

If you just fit a used ECU from a different car, the coded VIN data which is in both the ECU and the BSI, will not match, so the BSI will not respond to the request for key authorisation.

Once the line of code is removed from the ECU, it no longer checks with the BSI whether the key is authorised or not and just allows the engine to start.

If you don't remove that section of code, the BSI will not respond to a different ECU containing a different VIN number so the car will not start. This is effectively deletion of the immobiliser function.

If you're still in doubt, then get a hold of an ECU from a breaker and just try it.
