Hello" all,
Today i cleaned my fuel filler area, for the first time, it was filthy with gunky diesel.
I saw some thing that i hope you can help with.
This was a silver button under the fuel filler neck. It is sprung loaded and pushes in and out..what is it? A fuel line primer?
It's a 2001 1.9d with 322,500 k on the clock.

It may connect to to sliding side door to stop it opening while your refueling the car

As Trevor says if you have a sliding door and the fuel cap is off you should not be able to open that sliding door although on the later ones ive owned it was a black plastic button not your silver metal button. Dont go trying to force the sliding door to try out the theory as if it breaks you are in a whole world of bother to fix it.

Tomcat and Trevor. That is exactly what it was.
It was stuck in its hole! When i liberally lubricated it it then popped out about half inch and now does its job of locking the door open when the filler cap is off.
Thank you.
