Steel bulkhead question
#1
Hi there, new here so be gentle please!

I have recently purchased a 2015 enterprise, it has the half mesh bulkhead currently.

The van is quite noisy on the motorway, and I’m wondering if anyone has fitted one of the steel bulkheads and if it made a big difference?

Thank you

I don't have the bulkhead in mine, but I put soundproof adhesive foam panels on the inside of the roof skins between the strength rails, makes a massive difference. I've done this on all my Berlingo vans, had 3 in the last 10 years. I know what you mean, shutting the door sounds like letting a banger off in the Albert hall, and on motorways it's like driving a empty biscuit tin. Get yourself some soundproofing pads or roll, and get sticking to every roof and side panel, between the ribs (looks nice too if black foam or covered by wood panel kit) and it transforms the noise. Mine is whisper quiet now.

eBay is the place to find it. Cheap as chips too.

I went for 6mm roll but on hindsight the pre cut pads are easier to work with, just tile the skin panels like you're carpeting.

I haven't finished doing the sides on my B9 due to lockdown but the roof is done, and that alone, makes it a joy to drive.

Thanks Zion,
I’ve been looking into sound deadening and it’s a minefield!

A lot of people say you need to put a product like Dynamat in first then the foam. While I’m
Sure this is the best option I just want to improve things without spending hundreds!

I’ll have a look on eBay, just to be sure, have you just fitted foam or the sound deadening mat also?

I just used foam, it works perfectly. £26 for a 3m long roll, its also about the same full with of the van roof panels

This one is sound insulating and is the one I used - sticky as a mofo though, cut it as a template with the backing on and be careful, it sticks like sh*t to a blanket lol:

I'd be tempted to get it in pre-cut sheet form next time, probably easier to work with. Do on a warm day too, as condensation gathers on the steel panels and stops it sticking till they are dried if the metal is really cold.

Thank you,

I shall be giving this a go, right time of year coming up!

Here's mine so far. (Not finished) makes a huge difference just having those panels insulated. Rain doesn't sound like marbles on the roof now.

I have purchased 36 of the pre cut sheets, I’m guessing this will be enough for the roof and sides at least Smile

Good call. I think that will be plenty.
