Flettner Roof Vent
#11
Mick, I'm shortly going to install the low profile model to the wife's dog van (her early Christmas present!) as two GSDs to produce a fair bit of damp after a wet walk and/or swim.  The main reason is to keep the van aired and help dispel the dampness when not in use rather than extract moisture at the time.  Ideally, as an immediate fix to do this, one would need to run the aircon in recirc mode with the fan speed up high so it's possible your requirements (which sound like you need an instant fix) may not be met by a roof vent.  It will help but may fall short of your expectations.

Could you update me on your experience, I am aware of the limits of such a vent but think in some situations it may be ideal for my needs, particularly sleeping in the van, also keeping the van aired will be a help, especially as I smoke. As long as they don’t leak or make any noise I think it can’t have any down side. Guess I just need reassurance before cutting hole in the roof.

Will update you as & when, Mick, but may be a few weeks before the install here. Obviously they won't be totally silent but I understand that placement on the roof can help to cut any drumming down. I propose to install ours in the rear section of the roof nearer the back doors and off centre towards the offside so it will be in quite a well supported area as in our case that will be nearer to the 'damper' section of the load space - read dog cages. Also gives me the opportunity to fit another one of the near side if one is not enough for our needs.

I look forward to hearing your progress, I’m not even in possession of the Berlingo yet, do have a very nice 1.5 130 XL Flare in sight, but I’m waiting for my VW California to sell first to fund it.
As long as the flettner is not too noisy I think it’s the first bit I’ll fit, I can only see good points in having a constant movement of air in side, not sure which of us has potential for the whiffiest cargo, your dog or our wetsuits and wellies.

Remember you can put the Aircon on while heat is selected, recirc or not, and the evaporator / drier will get rid of moisture.
