1,6 I 16V 2007, Won't start (Single click)

Hey guys.

I have had my Berlingo for a few years and I am pretty happy with it. When i put the key in the ignition, I can hear the fuel pump is pumping and all the lights turn up in the dashboard. Once i try to turn it over, I can only hear i single click. It had a large servicecheck last year with timing belt replaced. I also had the starter motor replaced a few years ago.

I can push start the car. Please help

Is the single click coming from the starter motor?

Is the battery in a good state of charge, has the vehicle been standing for a while and the battery could have lost some of it's charge?

If it will push start but all you get is a click, it sounds like a starter issue. Could be something as easy as a bad earth or corroded terminals. Check those first as they have the advantage of being a free fix. I don't know if this works on the berlingo, but if you could get a good feed to the starter to see if it will spin, that would help diagnose as well. On bikes we used to just jump across the relay terminals with a screwdriver, but I imagine the Hdi engine is a bit more sophisticated than that.

In fact I had exactly this on my kawasaki, turned out a bettery terminal was loose. It would pass enough curret to work the lights, but didn't have enough "oomph" to turn the starter.

It was a wiring issue from the starter to the battery.
