Would it be possible to get a close up picture of how / where the first set of hinges are set?

I can't work it out; if the left hand (looking into the car) box has a ply top, but the right side doesn't, then the left side is a ply thickness taller, so how do you get the hinge level?

No doubt something obvious I'm missing!

Thanks for any help

There is a back panel that the hinges attach too! I used 15mm ply on this for more meat to screw into.

also the left hand box that holds the pull out draw is a ply thickness smaller than the right!

Thumbs Up
Great build Snels...wondering could you explain whats going on with the right hand box on jpeg8. With the battons/shruts or whatever they are called, do they spin around to let the box close? Does the left hand side of the box stay like that  or is it hinged to fold flat when it is opened.
I am attempting my own version, more or less based on Gravitys build but i like what you are doing with the right side box, thats why i ask.

Yes the side of the box turns into a table top that does not fold flat (annoyingly). This is the only thing I would change! I was going to use deadbolts to lock in-place but had some ply off cuts so i just made it up as i went along to be honest.

I might modify the right hand box so the side folds flat as I think the space of a 'L' shaped seat like Gravity's would be more usefull than a table on the side.

Hope that helps

yup..mine ended up like that (sticking out), so i ended up putting a piano hinge on it so it can fold down (i got the cheap set of piano hinges from screwfix £10er ish). I'm thinking i might leave it like this as i dont think i might need a shelf come table when i already have the centre table (or will have when it arrives from ebay) but i could be wrong.
When it is folded down its kept upright with a piece of wood and screw..see photo

edit, looks like i cant add attachments / photos

That is very clever to use the catch to hold down the side panel! You might have just convinced me to modify mine haha, I do have some piano hinge left over from the build and a free weekend coming up
